K-pop Is...

K-pop also known as Korean pop is originally from South Korea in the year 1885. Previously only the traditional Korean musical was formed, but nowadays genres like Rock, Jazz, Hip-hop, reggaeton, etc. are integrated into this style of music, since in 1992 bands like "Seo Taiji" and  "Boys " began to implement these Styles within their songs.
K-Pop was known in Japan at the beginning of the 21st century so it became a subculture of east and Southeast Asia.
Currently it is extending a great "Korean wave" throughout Latin America, India, North Africa, the Middle East and part of the West.

History of K-pop

Korean music was created around the year 1885 when Henry Appenzeller began to show American and British songs in a small; to Korean school, but were popularized around the year 1910 during the "Japanese occupation of Korea" the songs were named Changga and these expressed the feelings of Koreans against Japanese oppression against his country. After the Japanese occupation that ended in 1945, the Korean peninsula was divided into North and South, five years after the Korean War (1950-1953) at the end of that War, the United States gave its support to the southern region with its protection, this influenced much in the acceptance of the American culture, in 1957 the army began the transmission by radio of American music of that epoch obtaining that chorea adopted part of the culture of the United States.

Conflict Between United States and North Korea


At the end of the 60's, the Korean musicians became more and more students and graduates, these musicians were influenced by the culture of the United States by the hippie movement, making the songs more cheerful than they had been. In the beginning by their ancestors, these young musicians opposed the Vietnam War which caused the government to ban songs with reflections and liberal lyrics, but folk continued to be popular influence among the youngest ones, causing that in 1977 MBC created a musical contest of this genre. In the 80s there was a time of ballads after the Lee Gwang Ho album inspired this kind of songs sold more than 300,000 copies.

In the 90s the music of Europe and American genres such as electronica, rap and jazz were incorporated by young musicians of the Korean genre, groups like Seo Taiji and Boys marked a revolution in music from the southern part of Korea. They premiered in a contest of MBC and, although they obtained the lowest score, quickly this style was attracting attention and were born groups like HOT, VOX, Diva, among others, that supported this musical style and soon songs in English, Mandarin, etc. they were launched thus globalizing Korean music in other parts of the world.

At the beginning of the 21st century many of these groups that was successful in the ' 90s, failed and new groups like Girls Generations, Big Bang, among others. They were prospering and ascending in popularity Asian, soon will experiment a great international ascent of K-pop in different continents such as America and Europe. In 2014 "The Economist" named K-pop as leader of trends in Asia, currently the "gran call Korean Wave" extends more and more all over the world, so how many young people today are interested a little more about the culture of South Korea , Adopting this great popularity and a great social status internationally.
